FAQs

Should I use a broker or a transport company?
We are a yacht transportation company. We have trucks and the knowledge to properly and safely transport your boat and will arrive and do the job when we tell you we can. We don't book your job and then have to go hunt for a trucking company to do the job This means less delays and headaches for you the shipper and you know that you are getting professionals in yacht transportation with the right specialized equipment. And you cut out the middleman which should save you some money.

Will there be any other costs associated with the job?
Yes, generally the boat owner will have to pay the marinas on either end of the line to handle any rigging or dismantling, power washing of the boat and packing for shipment as well as the charges for the travel lift or crane.

Can you handle the dismantling and packing?
Generally not as we would be working in the marina and taking work that they normally perform for a fee for their customers so we are usually prohibited from providing that service.

Do you move sailboats as well as powerboats?
Yes, we can even move catamarans and trimarans within certain size limits.

Will I have to disassemble or remove parts from my boat?
Most states have a statutory height limit of 13'6". It will be possible to transport loads that are higher However, the cost will go up significantly as you go up in height and you will incur additional routing miles as well as additional escorts and out of route miles for detours on the route for low overhead clearances. In short, removing as much as possible to reduce the overall height will save you money on the transportation of the vessel. We will be happy to discuss your particular situation with you and offer guidance.

Do I need to remove the fuel from my boat?
We would prefer that you have as little as possible on board especially if your boat holds a large amount as this will save weight. However you need not remove all fuel.

What are the charges for escorts and why?
All states have varying rules and regulations for the transportation of oversize loads on their highways. First, we must apply for a permit to transport your boat and then the states will issue the permit with certain conditions, which may or may not require the use of escorts or police escorts. They will instruct us as to how many and whether they are to be civilian or police escorts. This is all factored into the quote that we give you.

Will your quote be the actual cost to transport my boat or will there be additional charges?
We calculate the cost of transporting your boat on the dimensions that you provide us or the materials that are available to us. As no two boats have the same equipment, we need as accurate figures from you as we can get. We nee the height from bottom of keel to the highest point of the cabin with most easy to remove items off of the boat (antennas, masts, radar, pulpits or fly bridges), and the exact beam of your boat. One inch can be the difference between needing an escort or not. We need the weight and overall length. Is there a dingy or tender to go with the move? The more precise you are with providing all the information the more accurate we will be with providing you a quote. However, we won't have an exact measurement until your boat is loaded on our trailer. Please feel free to call us and ask questions. We will be happy to guide you through the process.

Will you deliver my boat to my home or place of business?
Generally not! We have very specialized trailers that have very little ground clearance and we are generally as long as 80 feet or more so getting into most residential areas is prohibitive. Also, we must have a crane or travel lift available to load and unload. It is generally best to stick to a marina and make sure that they have a travel lift as well as adequate room to accommodate a large tractor and trailer.

How long will it take you to deliver my boat?
There is a lot involved in the transport of your boat, You must consider a day to load & unload and we generally cover between 350 to 450 miles per day depending on the size of your boat Many states require that we travel at a reduced speed. From coast to coast will be between seven to ten days providing there is no major holiday during the trip. Most states will not allow travel over a major holiday or Sundays. We ask for your patience and if you wish to make a certain time frame, that is, a boat show or a trip on your boat after delivery, that you plan as far ahead as possible.

Will you keep me informed during the shipping process?
Yes, generally we will call to let you know our progress about halfway and then 24 hours prior to delivery. Please do not schedule a particular time to arrive at a marina without discussing it with us. We will generally touch base with the marina upon our departure and again 24 hours out.
